Physical health means different things to different people. Some define it with fitness level, some with the endurance, energy & enthusiasm to undertake physical hardship and others describe it as the absence of any lifestyle /chronic diseases. Many in the silver/grey population suffer from this neglect.
I am proposing two simple steps to help you with better physical health. Firstly, routine & moderation in life and secondly orienting oneself to lead an active life.
Firstly, routine in sleep timings, food intake, exercising, reading, chilling/ doing nothing, hobby activity lead to our body being taken care of. Neglect in this regard, in our post retirement life, can lead to many unbecoming situations. The body metabolism gets routinised and one feels cheerful and happy about the physical body. Our body is a temple of our being and taking care of it is a good long-term investment. It is not important that this routine be vigorous or measure upto competing with any other or even self. Regularity is the key here.
Secondly, what we intake as food and drink, in terms of quality & quantity is also a reflection on our state of being. Routine helps to set the tone.
Routine is more often than not blamed to bring in boredom. I look at it differently. If our human machine can work towards being spontaneous, routine is the lubricant that makes it possible.
Secondly, for an active life one must choose active living over a passive being. It sustains enthusiasm, energy flow & keeps hope lit in us. Some planned physical activity – walking, cycling, exercising in the gymnasium, skipping, yoga, pranayama, jogging etc. can help in this. Pick what appeals to you. Most people find themselves ready to take on any home chores, home gardening, home or neighbourhood maintenance activity in the period prior to noon. Pick your time for the same & invest in your physical wellbeing.
So, routine and moderation along with active orientation to life is indeed a good investment for our physical wellbeing.
